The U.S. Army‘s Rapid Equipping Force has placed an order to CyPhy Works for a Persistent Aerial Reconnaissance and Communications tethered unmanned aerial system designed to perform long-endurance flights.
CyPhy Works said Monday the PARC’s Kevlar-strengthened microfilament tether acts as its power supply to support the drone in flights over hundreds of hours and facilitate communication and video services.
PARC works to give warfighters force protection and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
“The REF procured a system to help assess possible solutions to a validated requirement we received from a deployed unit,â€said Army Lt. Col. Scott Schumacher, Solutions Team 1 chief.
Matt England, CyPhy Works government systems vice president, said the system was created to be readily available and durable to assist soldiers regardless of location or environment.
