A Raytheon-commissioned study carried out by the Ponemon Institute study found at least two-thirds of businesses wait until cyber attacks damage their systems or steal data to contact managed security services providers.
The Don’t Wait: The Evolution of Proactive Threat Hunting survey includes responses from nearly 1,700 information security leaders across 19 countries on the outsourcing of network security activities, Raytheon said Monday.
Fifty-five percent of respondents said their company relies on MSS providers due to lack of in-house technology.
“Cybersecurity is not a waiting game, and organizations without the expertise and tools required to identify and respond to skilled adversaries need to understand that,” said Jack Harrington, vice president of cybersecurity and special missions at Raytheon’s intelligence segment.
Eighty-four percent of the respondents said current MSS providers do not offer proactive hunting services, while 80 percent reported a need to update current IT security strategies.
Fifty-nine percent reported lines of businesses as taking responsibility for cyber vendor relationships from IT departments.
