SRI International has unveiled a new spin-off venture named Superflex that will develop wearable robotics in an effort to help humans apply their musculoskeletal systems for multiple uses.
SRI said Thursday the technology was originally created under a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency-funded Warrior Web project that aimed to maximize soldier performance, minimize injury risk and help soldiers carry heavier load.
Rich Mahoney will oversee Superflex operations as CEO, SRI added.
He previously worked as the robotics director of SRI’s engineering R&D division from 2008 to 2015.
Mahoney also serves as president of non-profit organization Silicon Valley Robotics.
