Optex Systems has received a potential $1.7 million award from the U.S. Army to deliver laser-protected periscopes that will be installed on the service branch’s Abrams battle tanks.
The optical sighting systems manufacturer said Thursday the periscopes feature an optional glass and plastic laser protection that works to shield soldiers’ eyes during combat.
The initial orders from the Army Contracting Command are valued at $841,000 with an option for another $841,000, the company noted.
Optex is based in Richardson, Texas, and manufactures optical sighting systems for Defense Department and other applications.
