Ericsson and the Brazilian communications ministry have partnered to establish a laboratory to explore the potential applications of Internet of Things technology in agriculture, rainforest protection, disaster monitoring and prevention and energy production.
The company said Monday the Networked Security Lab will be part of the Ericsson Innovation Center that aims to drive IoT innovation across Brazil and other Latin American countries in collaboration with agencies, universities, suppliers and clients.
Ulf Ewaldsson, chief technology officer at Ericsson, said the lab reflects the company’s efforts to meet the United Nations’ sustainable development goals and will work to help Brazil achieve 5G mobile communications systems.
The company seeks to facilitate clean water and sanitation, sustainable cities and communities, climate action and zero hunger projects at the facility.
Ericsson and Brazil’s communications ministry are scheduled to formally launch the Networked Security Lab on Friday.
