Capella University, Pearson to Issue Digital Badges for NSA/DHS Master’s Program Students

Capella University has collaborated with Pearson to issue digital badges that utilizes the latter company’s Acclaim platform for students under the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security master’s program.

Badges issued through Acclaim will record professional skills its students have gained through coursework and certificate programs and be available for delivery to potential employers, Capella said Wednesday.

“While transcripts and diplomas are long­standing, trusted validations of student achievement, digital badges provide employers with more detailed, transparent aggregations of a student’s earned skills,” said Peter Janzow, Pearson senior director of business development for Acclaim.

Acclaim badges save metadata that shows owner credentials, accomplishments and the organization that issued the badge which can be shared on social media or networking sites including LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.

NSA and DHS have recognized Capella as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance/Cyber Defense, a distinction that gives the university the ability to offer digital badges to students who complete information assurance and security, network defense and digital forensic specialization master’s program.
