Lockheed Martin reseller partner Hybrid Enterprises has received a letter of intent from Straightline Aviation for the purchase of 12 Lockheed-built Hybrid Airships worth an estimated $480 million.
Hybrid Enterprises has started negotiations with SLA regarding the purchase agreement and works to finalize the sales of the cargo and passenger transport aircraft, Lockheed said Wednesday.
Lockheed selected Hybrid Enterprises in June 2015 to act as the exclusive reseller of the airship.
Mike Kendrick, SLA co-founder and CEO, said the company aims to be the first to possess the aircraft and noted its features are geared to deliver economic and environmental advantage.
The Hybrid Airship was designed with a tri-lobe shape and cushion-landing system that works to control fuel consumption and eliminate the need for ground infrastructure, Lockheed said.
