NASA has launched an X-ray astronomy satellite equipped with an imaging technology developed by EPIR Technologies Inc., a Sivananthan Laboratories company.
EPIR built the imaging system for ASTRO-H’s soft X-ray spectrometer designed to measure the energy of soft X-rays in order to view astronomical phenomena, Sivananthan Laboratories said Thursday.
“We are honored to have worked with NASA and the international team to create the high resolution X-ray calorimeter and hope for great discoveries on the structure and evolution of the universe,” said Christoph Grein, chief scientific officer of Sivananthan Laboratories.
“We congratulate NASA and the international mission on the successful launch, and we look forward to the new view of our universe that ASTRO-H will share with the world,” added Raja Krishnamoorthi, president of Sivananthan Laboratories.
The ASTRO-H X-ray satellite succeeds Suzaku, which ended its operation in 2015.
