HP’s Robert Youngjohns: Analytics Could Help Disrupt Security Breaches

Robert Youngjohns, executive vice president and general manager of software at Hewlett-Packard Co., believes analytics tools could be instrumental in defenses against security breaches and help prevent further damage, IT Pro reported Wednesday.

“I am a firm believer that the whole area of security is going to become a big data problem,” Youngjohns told an HP event.

He said security involves detecting intruders before they wreak havoc on the enterprise, Jane McCallion reports.

Youngjohns added that information technology and cybersecurity personnel will be able to detect a breach in real time by analyzing data that flows across a network, V3 reports.

He said it takes 200 days on an average to detect an attack and that the activity leaves a large volume of log files, which he indicated could help security departments disrupt an attack, according to the report.

“The question is, can you have analytic tools that can find those breaches early enough so that you can actually go and isolate the problem before it creates damage in the enterprise?” Youngjohns told the audience.
