IBMÂ has partnered with NASA to use the company’s Bluemix cloud platform for the NASA International Space Apps Challenge virtual event, which seeks to facilitate innovation through the development of space exploration applications.
The company said Tuesday Bluemix will offer access to at least 200 NASA data sources, services and tools to help challenge participants in their app development projects.
“The NASA International Space Apps Challenge is at the forefront of innovation, providing real-world examples of how technology can be used by the best and brightest developers in the world to solve some of the most daunting challenges facing our civilization,” said Sandy Carter, general manager for cloud ecosystem and developers at IBM.
IBM added that it will provide tutorials, mentorship and guidance to participants in the three-day event, which includes both on-site and virtual challenges for 136 cities.
The company will offer its cloud resources for 35 challenges in the robotics, humans, Earth and outer space categories and give 30 awards for participants’ use of Bluemix.
