Terri Cooper, Deloitte’s federal health sector lead, has highlighted the opportunities and challenges for health providers, planners, policymakers and regulators in the coming months.
Cooper noted in her 2015 Industry Outlook that the health sector’s opportunity is to control costs while maintaining the quality of medical treatment for consumers.
She recommended that health officials leverage developments in population health, health information technology and translational medicine to rein in the expenses.
An area Cooper noted both an opportunity and challenge is the development of programs and cost models that provide consistent return on investment while fulfilling an agency’s goal.
Cooper also discussed the trends in cybersecurity and analytics that she said could disrupt the sector in 2015.
“The leaders of federal agencies, departments and health centers would probably place potential data theft and manipulation of sensitive consumer information at the top of the list of things that keep them up at night,†she said.
“On a more positive note, the federal health sector is expected to benefit from continued innovation in harnessing and interpreting data through analytics,†Cooper added.
She also expects the government and private sector to form partnerships in 2015 geared toward the development of new healthcare services.
