John Powers, Deloitte‘s federal defense sector lead, has noted the U.S. Defense Department‘s openness to make changes in the way it does business and offer incentives to industry partners.
“This approach by DoD can create opportunities for innovation in weapons systems, supply chain management, deployment and support service delivery,” Powers said in an interview published on Deloitte’s website.
He projected that the availability of cheaper technologies to U.S. adversaries will remain a challenge in the coming years and that artificial intelligence and supercomputing systems will play a role in cyber defense.
Powers believes the agency’s acquisition strategy should address issues related to procurement workforce training, contract requirements development and outcomes measurement.
He also thinks an open dialogue between DoD and industry is needed to allow the agency to access more commercial offerings and best practices.
