Grant McLaughlin, a Booz Allen Hamilton vice president, predicts that consumers’ perceived advantages of information technology will drive electronic health systems adoption among clinicians and patients, HealthITAnalytics reported Monday.
“The expectation is, ‘Well, if I can get it in the rest of my life, why can’t I get it here too?’ I think consumers are really going to be pushing for this,” McLaughlin told the publication.
Booz Allen collaborated with Ipsos Public Affairs to study patient and provider sentiment on the industry’s future and found approximately one-third of respondents believe the U.S. healthcare system is “on the right track.”
McLaughlin also believes industry needs to develop health IT tools that would add value for users.
“If we can get to the crux of how to make the conversation between consumers and providers more valuable, and if technology can enable that, then I think we’ve struck gold,” he added, according to HealthITAnalytics.
