The Commonwealth of Virginia has enlisted Michael Baker International to help refine a geospatial information systems roadmap for the state.
Under the contract, the company will help update the Virginia Information Technologies Agency’s 5-Year GIS Strategic Plan for 2015-2020, which seeks to reap the benefits of geospatial data to improve public service, Michael Baker said Tuesday.
VITA intends to use the plan in the development of Next Generation 911 and other statewide initiatives.
Robert Hanson, national practice lead for geospatial information technologies at Michael Baker International, called the GIS plan a “wise investment” amid a growing need for the public sector to produce and offer such data.
“This project brings Michael Baker International’s commitment to meet the strategic objectives of the state and municipal governments within the communities we live and work,” he added.
