General Dynamics C4 Systems has been awarded a contract to supply encrypted smartphone units for use by enterprise information technology managers in government.
The Defense Mobile Classified Capability project includes 100 units of Samsung Galaxy S4 mobile phones equipped with Samsung Knox and GD Protected security features, the company said Thursday.
The award builds on the National Security Administration’s Commercial Solutions for Classified initiative launched in 2010 in a bid to harness private sector technology toward a more secure federal IT environment.
“Mobile government workers now have the freedom to read classified emails and talk securely anywhere, every time,” said Chris Marzilli, president of General Dynamics C4 Systems.
“The GD Protected, Samsung KNOX Galaxy S 4 smartphone integrates government-approved commercial components to provide a mobile security solution that the government can buy off the shelf from General Dynamics.”
The devices will also have a government-grade MobileIron mobile device management solution and CellCrypt voice encryption technology.
