General Dynamics demonstrated the capabilities of its Mobile User Objective System-enabled AN/PRC-155 radio to military observers at a four-day exhibition held at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.

“The Air Force reached out to General Dynamics asking us to demonstrate how the PRC-155 Manpack radio and the MUOS satcom system would work in an airborne C-17,” Chris Marzilli, president of General Dynamics C4 Systems, said Thursday.

During the demo, crew onboard the aircraft communicated flight and location details and other test information to ground control using the radios.

General Dynamics said the Manpacks rely on MUOS satellite technology to transmit and receive real-time, secure voice and data.

The MUOS satellite system has a data capacity 10 times larger than its UHF counterpart and offers smartphone-quality calls, it added.
