IMS Institute for Health Informatics recently published “Harbingers of Change in Healthcare,” a study listing ten game-changers in the global health scene.
IMS Health said Tuesday it defines harbingers as “thresholds crossed, actions taken or decisions made triggered by innovations in technology, information use and connectedness of healthcare systems.”
The list includes the greater engagement seen from consumer electronics makers in the creation of patient-centered technology, new treatment options, breakthrough vaccines and alternative ways of financing cures, and medicine spending growth.
The study predicts that the 10 indicators will have long-term effects on business models and procedures related to medicine use, scientific approaches and healthcare administration.
According to Murray Aitken, IMS Health senior vice president and IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics executive director, the study would help stakeholders create a future plan around these “transformative changes†in medicines.
“The future landscape for participants in the global healthcare sector will be defined by these breakthrough scientific advances, new consumer technology platforms and the explosive increase in information use,†Aitken said.
