Level 3 Communications will take on an expansion project in Alpharetta, Georgia, through which the company aims to widen its customer base in the region.

Under the plan, the company will seek to connect over 300 on-network buildings and more than 250 metro route miles to its telecommunications network, Level 3 said Thursday.

Ed Morche, senior vice president of East region enterprise and government markets at Level 3, described Alpharetta as a technological “hot spot” for data centers and company headquarters.

“Our expanded network reach in Alpharetta places Level 3 at the center of it all and establishes us as a key gateway for information exchange across the region,” he added.

The city aims to upgrade its existing network infrastructure at Alpharetta, which Level 3 says is one of the fastest growing technology cities in the country.

“Level 3’s expanded network and presence in the market will provide increased access and options for secure, global network connectivity – something all of the 600-plus companies here need with demands increasing daily,” said Peter Tokar, the city’s economic development director.
