Diana Gowen believes the telecommunications industry faces a challenge in getting both business and personnel to adjust to the market pivot toward cloud computing, managed services and other emerging technologies, she told FCW in an interview published Monday.
Gowen, who retired in July as senior vice president and general manager of CenturyLink’s public sector business, spoke with reporter Nick Wakeman about the changing landscape of technology, business relationships and market players in telecom.
“Traditional telecom providers are making a pivot to cyber, managed services and the cloud. But you don’t want to forget your big base in traditional telecom,” Gowen says.
“[You]Â have to pivot to very different relationships with different buyers.”
Gowen, who led CenturyLink’s contract wins for Networx and the Defense Research and Engineering Network, anticipates further industry developments with the upcoming Network Services 2020 contract and cited nontraditional players such as Google as potential contenders in the telecom market.
