Exelon has begun construction work on a natural gas-fired power plant in Harford County, Maryland, that will have a generating capacity of 120 megawatts.
The company awarded Pratt & Whitney‘s power systems business a contract to build an aeroderivative gas turbine generator for the plant.
Ron DeGregorio, president of Exelon Power, said Monday that the business expects the project to create up to 100 jobs and contribute more than $11 million to the local economy.
“The project is estimated to pay an average of $1.3 million per year in property tax to Harford County, over the first 20 years of operation and that is more than $25 million to local schools and county services,” DeGregorio added.
The facility is scheduled to be fully operational by June 2015 and intended to boost the Perryman Station’s generation output to 465 megawatts.
