web, cyber, computerSerco has launched new program that aims to allow U.K.-based organizations to test their cybersecurity in a secure environment.

The cbyX systems is designed to test both IT staff and management teams on their ability to identify the nature of a cyber-attack, terminate that attack, manage their organization’s response and restore systems to a “new normal,” Serco said Wednesday.

Serco manages the country’s Emergency Planning College on behalf of the Cabinet Office.

The cybX training system, when combined with EPC’s experience in organizational resilience training and exercising, is intended to offer organizations a hands-on technical and consequence management training program against cyber-attacks.

“You wouldn’t send a soldier into the field that hasn’t been properly trained or prepared, and the same should be true for those working in the front-line of cyber operations,” Serco’s Director of cbyX Richard Preece said.

“Our new training is designed to put employees from the server room to the board room through their paces and enable organisations to better prepare for the inevitable cyber-attack.”

According to Serco, a survey found that 91 percent of organizations suffer a cyber-attack at least once a year (Kaspersky Lab and B2B International research, Dec 2013), with Small Medium Enterprises said to be particularly vulnerable to infiltration.

These kinds of infiltrations can result in the loss of sensitive personal and financial data such as customer records and corporate trade secrets, Serco said.
