Boeing‘s Insitu subsidiary is building a heavier variant of its Integrator unmanned aerial vehicle platform to accommodate additional payloads and capabilities, Defense News reported Saturday.
Aaron Mehta writes the variant will be at 165 pounds, compared to the current 135 pounds of the Marine Corps‘ Integrator-based RQ-21A Blackjack.
“One of the things we know for a fact is when you start adding more sensors to platform you impact the performance,” said Ryan Hartman, senior vice president for Insitu programs.
“What we’re trying to do is balance the capability that we bring to the table through payloads, with the performance customers have come to expect from us.”
Insitu also plans to modify the Integrator’s launch mechanism and exploring sensor and radar upgrades for the platform, Mehta reports.
