AT&TÂ held an application development contest from May 2 to May 3 for participants to build disaster preparedness apps in an effort to contribute to public safety programs.
Developers formed groups and collaborated to develop 15 public safety mobile apps for the first-responder community during the hackathon at 1776 in Washington, AT&T said Friday.
Jim Bugel, vice president of AT&T’s public safety business, writes the developers built the apps based on team communications, situational awareness, location tracking and augmented reality.
First responders from police departments across the U.S. joined as coaches to hackathon participants.
“Team Beacon” won the first prize for creating apps to help people in distress communicate with friends, family and professionals.
Team Beckon came in second for developing the iBeacon app to aid in search operations and third-place “Team Glass of Life” designed an app to help get people out of cars by viewing the vehicle’s schematics using augmented reality.
