Harris Corp. will update the U.S. Navy‘s F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet fighter aircraft’s mission and image processing technology under a two-year, $19-million subcontract from Boeing.
Harris will focus its work on the Super Hornet’s avionics components and aim to improve the jet’s target sensing, precision and networking power, Harris said Thursday.
“Start of full-rate production is a key milestone in the F/A-18 E/F Network Centric Warfare Upgrades program,” said Ed Zoiss, vice president and general manager for defense programs at Harris Government Communications Systems.
Nearly 150 employees at Harris’ facility in Palm Bay, Fla. support the F/A-18 Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler programs.
