A Helsinki, Finland-based public bus company has adapted a Microsoft business intelligence platform to help monitor traffic data, gas usage and driver performance.
Helsingin Bussiliikenne Oy uses Power BI for Office 365 alongside a CGI-built data warehouse system and Microsoft’s SQL Server, SharePoint, Office and Power Mapplatforms, Microsoft said Monday.
The city-owned bus operator competes with private operators to serve transportation routes and cannot raise fares once a business contract is awarded.
According to Microsoft, Helsingin Bussiliikenne Oy worked with CGI to implement Microsoft big data and analytics tools to manage operational and financial data.
The Finnish bus operator has saved up to 5 percent in fuel costs and saw customer satisfaction increase by 7 percent over the past two years after adopting the data warehouse infrastructure, Microsoft says.
Microsoft intends for its Power BI platform to help Helsingin Bussiliikenne Oy analyze the bus fleet’s sensor data such as geographic location, brake performance, acceleration and fuel usage.
