iridium logoIridium Communications has introduced a data broadcasting service intended to help government organizations and business entities transmit information from any device anywhere in the world.

The Burst offering is designed to help mobile device users access machine-to-machine content and disseminate public warnings while inside a building, an aircraft or a ground vehicle, the company said Monday.

Bryan Hartin, executive vice president for sales and marketing at Iridium, said the service was launched to enable multi-platform data transmission via Iridium’s satellite network.

Through the Burst technology, Iridium aims for public sector organizations to update citizens about weather, disaster and national security issues.

Iridium also intends for the platform to help military agencies send data messages to warfighters deployed in remote locations.

Burst is a pay-per-use service and designed to be compatible with Iridium receiver systems.
