NexDefense will market Battelle’s network fingerprinting and monitoring software under a patent and copyright licensing agreement.
The Sophia industrial control systems tool is built at Idaho National Laboratory with more than $1.5 million in investments from the Energy Department’s office of electricity delivery and energy reliability, NexDefense said Tuesday.
“Because of the great need to meet the network security and operational challenges of our critical infrastructure, NexDefense plans to develop, enhance and tailor multiple commercial versions of Sophia to meet those needs,” said Michael Assante, co-founder of NexDefense.
Sophia works to monitor network activities and identify suspicious communications for investigation.
“We are pleased to award NexDefense this opportunity and further support them through our Technology Assistance Program,†said Mark Kaczor, BEA’s senior commercialization manager for Sophia.
BEA recently conducted a beta testing for the software with more than 40 participants and NexDefense plans to hold a second evaluation and planning program for the product.
