The U.S. Space Force plans to launch a solicitation for commercial satellite communications services in support of the U.S. military and various government entities. USSF said Wednesday in a request for information notice that its Commercial Satellite Communications Office seeks proliferated low Earth orbit services that can facilitate data transfers with a maximum latency of 50 milliseconds.

The U.S. Navy tasked DCS to develop air traffic control and landing systems for the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division's Webster Outlying Field organization as part of a five-year, $29 million contract. The company said Wednesday it started working with WOLF personnel under the Technical, Engineering Products and Software Services contract in December and the team will develop, integrate, test, manage and maintain air traffic control systems over the duration of the award.

The Department of Defense (DoD) has announced a new data strategy, intended to drive the defense department to more effectively use data. Dave Spirk, the recently appointed chief data officer (CDO) for DoD, said that the strategy will support a “joint warfighting” approach to data collection, management and use. Spirk was appointed to the role in June 2020.
