Lockheed Martin‘s integrated warfare systems and sensors business has partnered with Rowan University to research, build and test radar technologies for national defense usage.

The collaborative project covers radar component prototyping, system performance evaluation, sustainment modeling and engineering course development, Rowan University said Tuesday.

Carmen Valentino, vice president of naval radar and future systems at Lockheed , said the company aims to expand radar offerings for defense customers as well as help Roan develop students’ talent through the partnership.

The industry-academic team will conduct research work at Rowan’s technology park in Mantua Township, N.J.

“That work not only furthers our students’ education, it also provides Lockheed Martin and other businesses with a talented workforce, with young professionals who enter their first jobs equipped with valuable experience,” said Ali Houshmand, Rowan University president.

“And by expanding its activity in South Jersey, Lockheed Martin also will further contribute to the economic development of our region,” Houshmand added.
