The U.S. government has initiated several efforts this year to advance the use of artificial intelligence and other cognitive technology platforms to facilitate the delivery of services to citizens, the Washington Business Journal reported Friday.
Those include the formation of a new select committee to coordinate AI research initiatives, the Defense Department’s call for a national AI strategy and a new Office of Management and Budget memo that aims to modernize operations through the use of AI, robotic process automation software and other automation tools.
“I have seen great momentum for artificial intelligence this year like I’ve never seen before in the federal government,†said Marc Mancher, a principal and lead of federal analytics service at Deloitte’s consulting business.
Mancher noted that government information technology professionals are starting to look at the capability of chatbots and other AI tools in improving their agencies’ operations and approach to resource allocation.
