Report: SpaceX Targets Feb. 6 Maiden Falcon Heavy Launch - top government contractors - best government contracting event

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has said the company aims to launch a heavy-lift variant of its  Falcon rocket at NASA‘s Kennedy Space Center in Florida by Feb. 6, Spaceflight Now reported Sunday.

The report noted SpaceX set a three-hour window beginning at 1:30 p.m. Eastern time for the Falcon Heavy liftoff from launch pad 39A.

Falcon Heavy will carry a used Tesla-built Roadster sports car as a payload and attempt to bring the vehicle into heliocentric orbit as part of the rocket’s inaugural test launch.

The 3.1 million pound-rocket is designed to generate nearly 5 million pounds of thrust at launch, the report added.

SpaceX completed the first static fire test of Falcon Heavy last week.
