Tom Romeo, president of the federal services division at Maximus, foresees new market opportunities with the proposed combination of his company and technology services contractor Acentia, he told Washington Business Journal in an interview published Tuesday.

Maximus announced a $300 million cash deal to acquire Acentia on Monday and projects the transaction will increase the percentage of the firm’s revenue coming from federal contracts to up to 23 percent.

“I think this is very transformational,” Romeo told reporter Jill Aitoro.

“The combination of two entities, providing the full range of capabilities — it makes us a fairly unique provider in the federal space,” he added, according to the publication.

He also noted in the interview that Maximus aims to expand its information technology offerings, particularly for federal civilian organizations, through the Acentia deal.

Maximus would also keep on board as many Acentia employees as it can, and most of Acentia’s executive team committed to stay on, Romeo told the publication.
