Bae-systems-logo_ExecutiveBiz1BAE Systems will offer a big data storage system originally developed for government and military agencies to commercial customers.

TeraStar is built to store large amounts of data gathered from sensors and be compatible with different types of storage media devices, BAE said Monday.

“We originally developed the TeraStar data storage system to fit the government’s strict cost, size, weight, and capacity requirements that legacy commercial products were not designed to meet,” said Andrew Russette, a product manager at BAE.

Russette added the company is offering TeraStar to commercial clients “at a cost per terabyte that is roughly one quarter of the industry average.”

BAE intends for TeraStar to be used by cloud-based storage providers and small-to-medium sized businesses.
