BAE Selects CAE Subsidiary to Support Marine Corps Training Platform Dev’t; Peder Jungck Quoted
A CAE subsidiary has received a subcontract from BAE Systems for services in support of the latter's work to develop a new cloud-powered training environment for the U.S. Marine Corps. CAE said Wednesday its USA Mission Solutions subsidiary will help BAE prototype cloud models and simulations for USMC Base Quantico's planned Wargaming Center under a $19M contract the military branch awarded to BAE in August.

NOAA, NASA Kick Off Challenge for Magnetic Field Forecast Models
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and NASA will jointly seek out input on how forecasts can reduce the adverse effects of geomagnetic storms faced by navigation systems. The MagNet: Model the Geomagnetic Field challenge calls for new forecast models that would help the government predict magnetic field changes and produce more accurate magnetic navigation, crowdsourcing initiative partner HeroX said Tuesday.

USAF Taps Boeing to Provide F-15 EW System Spares for Qatar
Boeing has secured a $46.9M contract with the U.S. Air Force to provide digital electronic warfare system spares for Qatar's F-15 aircraft. The company will deliver these items under a foreign military sales agreement between USAF and Qatar Emiri Air Force, the Department of Defense said Tuesday.

Air Force Test-Flies Kratos-Made Attritable Unmanned Aircraft
The U.S. Air Force and Kratos Defense and Security Solutions demonstrated the flight of an attritable XQ-58A Valkyrie unmanned aircraft system designed to require fewer maintenance costs compared to other models. The fifth demonstration of the Kratos-made aircraft took place at Arizona-based Yuma Proving Ground on Dec. 9 with Air Force Research Laboratory under the attritableONE program, Robins Air Force Base said Tuesday.

Lockheed Martin Demos U-2 Dragon Lady Aircraft With Kubernetes Cloud; Jeff Babione Quoted
Lockheed Martin has demonstrated the use of Kubernetes-based processing aboard a U-2 Dragon Lady reconnaissance aircraft as a precursor to achieving real-time software deliveries during flights. The Kubernetes containerization technology test, conducted in November, supports an effort to create a secure software development environment that allows aircraft to accommodate software updates when airborne, Lockheed said Monday.
