Fairbanks Morse has changed its name as part of a rebranding effort to emphasize the company's work with defense customers. The Beloit, Wisconsin-based marine technology supplier said Tuesday it will now operate as Fairbanks Morse Defense with three business units that focus on providing engines, aftermarket services and motor and control systems in the military and commercial maritime sectors.

The U.S. Navy celebrated the commissioning of its 12th Independence-variant littoral combat ship with a private ceremony that took place Saturday in Oakland, California.
