Known to his friends and colleagues as Bill, Dr. William Streilein has a deeply rooted expertise in science and technology spanning over 30 years. He has developed technical capabilities in program management, business development, and strategic leadership, boosting his credibility as a creative thinker who turns envisioned concepts and solutions into reality.

 

Dr. Streilein’s contributions to the scientific community extend beyond his roles in the organizations he commands. He has also published and co-authored over 30 published papers and chapters exploring the next-generation adaptation and applications of various technologies, such as AI and software technologies.

 

Educational attainment of Dr. William Streilein

 

Dr. William Streilein further strengthened his federal science and technology capabilities by advancing his education. The main focus of his academic accomplishments encompasses mathematics, electronics, computer music, and neural systems.

 

  • Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Austin College (1981–1985)
  • Master of Music in Electronic and Computer Music from the University of Miami (1985–1987)
  • Ph.D. in Cognitive and Neural Systems from Boston University (1995–1998)

As the DoD’s Chief Technology Officer for the Chief Digital and AI Officer, Dr. William Streilein provides strategic awareness, direction for enterprise-scale data, and AI analytics and capabilities. His role is pivotal in helping the Department of Defense transform its activities to adopt next-generation AI software technologies.

 

Prior to his designation as a prominent AI leader, Dr. spent more than 25 years at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory. He held multiple senior positions contributing to technical research, leadership expertise, cybersecurity, passive network, traffic analysis, streaming analytics, and computer vision.

 

Through these experiences, Dr. Streilein has become a prolific leader, particularly in emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. He is a part of the Academic Committee Member of AISec, GameSec, MILCOM, and ACM, and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
