Northrop Grumman has unveiled a modular sensor technology for military customers to track and spot airborne targets.
The OpenPod platform is designed to house multiple sensors and employ targeting and infrared search and track systems, Northrop said Tuesday.
James Mocarski, vice president of Northrop’s airborne tactical sensors unit, said the company built the pod with an open architecture to help operators configure the sensor based on missions.
The pod’s modular design is meant to allow customers to update sensors without modifying the aircraft or mission computers.
Northrop plans to also integrate communication and Lidar remote sensing technologies into OpenPod in the future.
