BAE Systems will create a prototype electronic warfare technology for the second phase of a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency program aimed at countering radar threats.
The company said Monday its EW system will employ software algorithms intended to detect and obstruct adversarial radars electronically.
DARPA awarded BAE a three-year, $21.6 million contract under the agency’s Adaptive Radar Countermeasures initiative.
“Technology that adapts to overcome our adversaries’ digitally programmable air defenses is an important part of BAE Systems’ wider portfolio in cognitive programming for military systems,” said David Logan, vice president and general manager of technology solutions at BAE.
In ARC phase one, the company developed methods to characterize enemy radars and evaluate how electronic countermeasures work against the threats.
The program is scheduled for final implementation and technology demonstrations in 2018.
