Raytheon and L-3 Communications have completed a new test on the TALON Rocket Remote Weapon System to demonstrate the target positioning and engagement functions of this laser-guided defense system for small ships.
Rick Nelson, vice president of Raytheon’s naval and area mission defense products, said Wednesday TALON RRWS combines the uses of the TALON laser-guided rocket and L-3’s Advanced Remote Weapon Station and sensor technology to help protect small vessels from surface threats.
The recent test follows a proof-of-principal test earlier this year and utilized L-3 KEO‘s ONE 360 imaging system and L-3 Sonoma EO‘s Sonoma 1205MD for laser designation of the target, Raytheon said.
It added that RRWS can carry as many as seven TALON rockets, weighs an estimated 500 pounds and can be integrated onto ships of varying sizes.
