The U.S. Navy‘s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command will launch a pilot program for reserve units to test a cloud-based Microsoft communication and collaboration system, Nextgov reported Tuesday.
SPAWAR estimates adopting the Office 365 cloud email platform would save the organization almost $17 million over five years, according to the report by Bob Brewin.
Brewin writes the command will use a General Services Administration schedule-based cloud blanket purchase agreement to procure the Microsoft service offering.
The command made the decision after conducting a business case analysis of Office 365, Navy Marine Corps Intranet and Defense Information Systems Agency‘s enterprise cloud email service, according to the report.
