Raytheon expects to obtain approval from a U.S. military client by the end of 2014 after the company completes developmental testing on its helicopter-mounted shooter detection system, Defense News reported Sunday.
Aaron Mehta writes Raytheon developed the Boomerang Air system based on its Boomerang and Warrior X ground-based technologies.
Roy Azevedo, Raytheon’s vice president for advanced concepts and technology, told the publication the company has invested in a technology that would work on a helicopter amid the noise and vibration.
Boomerang Air works to determine when a weapon is launched and identify its source through audio data from a microphone array, Defense News reports.
Azevedo told Defense News the company is testing the system on the CH-47 Chinook and UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.
Mehta writes Raytheon hopes to attract international customers during the Farnborough International Airshow this week.
