The Bechtel-led Dulles Transit Partners team has nearly completed the first phase of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project in conjunction with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.
The Silver Line project includes five stations, six miles of elevated track, an underground tunnel and 11.7-mile rail line connecting Reston, Va. to the orange line, Bechtel said Thursday.
“Substantial completion is an important milestone that signals major work is finished and that soon riders will travel on a 21st-century transit system,” said Larry Melton, the project’s executive director.
According to Melton, at least 2,000 people and 200 local establishments supported Bechtel on the project.
After completion, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority will test the rail line for ninety days and determine the start of passenger service.
