Harris Corp. has connected U.S. Special Operations Command bases in four states for a demonstration of the company’s new high-frequency tactical radio network.
SOCOM personnel in Colorado, Kentucky, Florida and North Carolina transmitted and received voice and data messages through Harris’ Falcon III HF tactical radio, Harris said Thursday.
The demonstration was intended to evaluate the radio’s compatibility with current ground tactical networks in providing chat, email, position tracking, situational awareness and imagery transmission services.
“SOCOM forces obtained communications that met or exceeded capabilities offered by legacy tactical satellite systems during the demonstration,” said George Helm, president of the Defense Department business at Harris RF Communications.
The tactical radio is software-defined and built to work with Falcon II HF components.
