New York-based BlueVoyant has appointed Rob Joyce, former cybersecurity director at the National Security Agency, as an independent director on its board.

In a statement Wednesday, Joyce said, “BlueVoyant is at the forefront of delivering holistic cyber defense and enhancing threat illumination. I am excited to join the BlueVoyant board to help organizations improve their cyber defenses using next generation technologies.”

He stressed the need for security teams in critical organizations to have “clear visibility into their digital ecosystems” to combat advanced cyber threats.

With over three decades at the NSA, Joyce played a key role in protecting national security systems and critical infrastructure from emerging threats. Before heading cybersecurity efforts, he served as the U.S. liaison officer in London and held several senior roles within the agency.

His government experience also includes serving as White House cybersecurity coordinator and acting Homeland Security adviser.

Joyce runs his own cybersecurity consulting firm, Joyce Cyber.
