French laser communications company Cailabs has appointed Jim Hooper as senior vice president of business development for its Washington-based U.S. unit.

With his appointment, Hooper will work to strengthen Cailabs’ position in the U.S. satellite sector, the company said.

Immediately before joining Cailabs, Hooper was the senior vice president for space initiatives of global satellite operator SES, where he worked in various other positions from 2011 to 2024, including executive roles in Singapore and in business development in the Asia-Pacific region, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Hooper also previously served as SAIC vice president and division manager overseeing service deliveries for Department of Defense requirements.

Jean-Francois Morizur, Cailabs co-founder and CEO, said Hooper is bringing in “considerable experience and a proven track record of success” to the company.

“We see him as an important part of our continued growth globally and our ability to meet the rising demand for laser and optical communications solutions like ours,” Morizur added.

Sharing his excitement in joining Cailabs, Hooper noted the reputation that the company has established in laser and optical communication technologies since its foundation in 2013.

“Now, Cailabs is well-positioned to transition these technologies and field advanced, next-generation solutions for satellite missions,” he said.
