Amazon Web Services has secured High authorization under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program for its end-to-end encrypted service available for AWS GovCloud customers in the U.S. West region.
AWS Wickr is an encrypted communications service that uses a 256-bit encryption technique to enable government and commercial customers to secure group messaging, voice and video calling, screen sharing and file sharing, AWS said Thursday.
With the authorization, government agencies can use the secure communication service to protect documents and data communications that require a High level of confidentiality and availability.
Government system administrators can use the AWS Management Console to create Wickr networks wherein they can log both internal and external conversations to private data storage for data retention and auditing purposes.
In October 2013, AWS secured a FedRAMP authority to operate certification at the moderate level for the Wickr platform available within the AWS U.S. East or Northern Virginia region.
