Tony Frazier, executive vice president and general manager of public sector Earth intelligence at Maxar Technologies, said geospatial data could play a key role in ensuring maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region and the use of technologies such as space-based surveillance sensors, artificial intelligence and machine learning could help improve maritime domain awareness in the region and across the world.
There are available technologies that could provide maritime domain awareness, including the Crow’s Nest platform from Maxar, Frazier, a six-time Wash100 awardee, wrote in a blog post published Tuesday.
Crow’s Nest offers maritime security and monitoring capabilities and facilitates the delivery of information using ML and space-based radar and optical imagery.
He said the technology comes with tipping and cueing capabilities that could help countries mitigate risks by observing human activity and gain early warnings of potential threats in the maritime domain.
Frazier also cited how the platform facilitates collaboration and data sharing.
“By leveraging the capabilities of Maxar’s Crow’s Nest, nations can actively assess and respond to potential violations, promoting accountability and upholding the principles of a rule-based order,” he noted.
