A Cubic business division has moved to the full-rate production phase of an acquisition program that will provide the U.S. Marine Corps a next-generation communications system designed to transmit microwave radio signals across the troposphere.
Cubic Mission and Performance Solutions will manufacture the X-band tropospheric scatter technology, as part of a potential $325 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract USMC awarded in 2019, the company said Tuesday.
CMPS, along with its subcontractor Comtech Systems, committed to supplying 172 units of the NGT system to the service branch. The IDIQ award also covers testing, logistics, training, fielding and sustainment support services.
Anthony Verna, chief growth officer of CMPS, said the technology will work to help Marines communicate at beyond-line-of-sight distances as they perform missions.
