5G.MIL collaboration

Lockheed Martin and Microsoft have signed an agreement to scale up a military base networking system for joint all-domain command and control applications using 5G and cloud technologies.

The companies will work on the Lockheed Hybrid Base Station, a network management offering designed to protect military communications from adversarial attacks on the tactical edge, Lockheed said Sunday.

In a recent demonstration in Colorado, the Hybrid Space Station worked with Microsoft’s 5G and Azure cloud services to provide interoperability between 5G and tactical radio networks and produce real-time radio frequency analytics.

Both Dan Rice, vice president of 5G.MIL programs at Lockheed, and Tom Keane, corporate vice president for mission engineering at Microsoft, agreed that the new partnership will help deliver tools that warfighters need for completing their missions at the tactical edge.
