Chip George, vice president of public sector sales at Nutanix, said federal and public sector information technology leaders must prioritize further adoption of telework approach and modernization of IT systems to help them meet modern demands and achieve mission goals moving forward.
In a commentary piece Nextgov published Friday, George wrote that agencies demonstrated persistent application of hybrid work model as evidenced by a portion of government empoyees continuing to work from home over a year since the onset of COVID-19.
“Government agencies specifically worked tirelessly to extend telework capabilities far beyond the then-established norms, while also securing the government data and applications that were being accessed from home networks and devices,” he noted.
George cited a Nutanix report that found 82 percent of 3,400 IT decision-makers surveyed in mid-2020 consider hybrid cloud as their ideal operating model. The 2020 Enterprise Cloud Index also revealed that federal government officials plan to grow hybrid cloud deployments to 74 percent penetration over a five-year period and more than double their usage within a year.
The plans are meant to support agencies’ customers service and workforce support, according to George.
“As agencies focus on adopting a Cloud Smart strategy, it will be important for IT to look for hybrid and multicloud solutions that will deliver the flexibility and security necessary to navigate the likely changes in store for the coming years.”
